How It All Began

The professional and educated classes and indeed even the wealthy and aristocratic have long been fascinated by the activities within the squared circle. Sometimes the relationship between patron and pugilist became blurred when the patron decided that he too could be a contender. Usually he ended up flat on his back! Many well known literary characters have had a fascination for the sport: Byron, Hemingway, Jack London, Sir Arthur, Conan Doyle, George Plimpton, Norman Mailer...and sometimes committed to pen a glorious if slightly exaggerated account of their own exploits.

More recently, the story has it that some years ago, two Wall Street types who both fancied themselves just a little, bet on who would still be standing after three rounds in the local boxing gym. They employed pro fighters as trainers, worked out for the best part of six months, and finally got it on at the famous Gleason’s in front of a crowd of colleagues. As neither could fight a lick, they both walked away unscathed and with pride intact. Word spread and soon Gleason’s found itself with a steady queue of Wall Street warriors stretching all the way over Manhattan Bridge!

White-Collar Boxing Today

White-Collar Boxing today remains a high-adrenalin contact sport but it is now regulated and controlled by the International White-Collar Boxing Association (IWCBA). It attracts men & women from numerous white-collar professions because it actively promotes and develops the positive qualities of boxing: courage, commitment and confidence. With New York and London blazing a trail, the sport is now taking Europe and the Far East by storm after numerous highly publicized Real Fight Club events.

Who can participate?

If you still think you ‘coulda been a contender’, then worry not, you still can be! Anyone can compete in our White Collar Boxing shows, once you have attained a certain level of fitness and skill.

You’re then welcome to climb into the boxing ring for real at one of our professionally organised White Collar Boxing shows, regularly held in London and across the UK. We generally select boxers from our club members, but are always interested in hearing from other White Collar Warriors training at other boxing gyms across the UK who are keen to step into the ring.

Is it safe?

Member safety is a paramount concern at The Real Fight Club. In over 100 White Collar Boxing shows to date, we’ve maintained a 100% safety record, due to our professional event organisation, expert matchmaking and diligent medical supervision. There’s no denying it’s a contact sport, but we ensure that the highest professional standards and procedures are followed at all times under the guidance of the IWCBA thus mitigating risk of injury.
