Directed by Academy Award® Nominee David O. Russell (Three Kings), The Fighter won two Academy Awards® for Best Supporting Actor and Actress (Christian Bale, Melissa Leo), and nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress (Amy Adams), Best Original Screenplay and Best Editing. The film is the second highest grossing boxing film in the UK ahead of Million Dollar Baby and second only to Rocky Balboa.

Christian Bale and Melissa Leo (Frozen River) give knockout performances as Micky's troubled older brother, Dicky Eklund and Ward's mother. Also starring in the film is Academy Award® Nominee Amy Adams (Doubt) who plays Mickey Ward's girlfriend and future wife, Charlene.
